Maia Bassa / Untermais
Until 1924 Mais was a municipality in its own right. It is now part of Merano. Today, Untermais is an elegant, peaceful residential area. It is also home to Europe's largest hippodrome, which was inaugurated in 1935 and hosts a number of prestigious events.
Main Topic of the shelter: At the beginning of last century, several religious communities formed in Maia Bassa. They built their own places of worship and schools (Evangelical church, Borodine Foundation, Russian Orthodox church, synagogue, Evangelical community school).

Renovation work evisages increasing platform height at Untermais, Lana-Burgstall, Gargazon, Vilpian, Siebeneich and Sigmundskon in order to allow passengers to get on/off the new low-floor FLIRT trains with ease. Similar work at other stations will be carried out very soon. |
