Escape the daily routine and discover South Tyrol: whether through ambitious mountain bike tours or relaxing pleasure trips along gentle slopes and valleys, the best means to enjoy nature and tangible freedom is by bike. Departing fom the Venosta valley, ride downwards alongside the Adige river and ancient remnants of the legendary roman street Claudia Augusta, passing sunny orchards, medieval villages, castles and romantic churches. After the province’s capital Bolzano the Isarco valley spreads to the north. Passing the Sabiona abbey perched on the picturesque artist’s town Chiusa you’ll reach the old Episcopal residence of Bressanone. A short way after, the path detours almost evenly towards the Upper Val Pusteria, finally leading in the realm of the magnificient pale mountains: the Dolomites.
The whole route is served by the gem of our soft-mobility-concept: the coloured, comfortable, eco-friendly and barrier-free trains of the Venosta and Pusteria line, which will bring you home in total relax after a ravishing immersion in the heart of our amazing region.
Some expert advise
1. Drink plenty of liquids
Sports activities cause the human body to lose lots of fluids. At times, fluid loss may not even be apparent. Make sure your water bottle is always full and don’t forget to drink regularly. Diluted fruit juices are recommended. If you wish to stop for a while, don’t miss one of the cosy bars along the cycling route.
2. Always wear a helmet
You would be mistaken to believe that helmets are only worn by children and mountain bikers. All cyclists should wear helmets. Not only will it protect you if you fall, but it will also provide protection from the sun and rain. Never leave home without your helmet!
3. Wear the right clothes
Not all cyclists own cycle suits. Not that there's anything wrong with that!
You should wear shorts, a comfortable T-shirt, tennis shoes and sunglasses. You should also have a wind cheater and a light raincoat, which should fit comfortably in your rucksack.
